The Esplanade will undoubtedly become one of the tourist destinations in Iloilo City, thus promoting the grandeur of Iloilo River, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6).

Now being constructed at the riverbank in Mandurriao district is expected to inspire and attract other business along the boulevard such as hotels, restaurants, theme parks and other fun establishments, it added.

The P70-M Widening of Treñas Boulevard (Esplanade) project is initiated by Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon, which is implemented by DPWH-6.

It will become a showcase of global river protection when the city hosts the 1st Philippine International River Summit May 30-June 1.

The 1.2-kilometer widening project includes construction of concrete paving and retaining wall.

Once completed, it will host viewing decks and trees beautifying the Esplanade which will serve as a leisure place for a respite from busy city life but without going too far.

The project is seen to boost the city’s tourism industry with fast rising developments and home of famous historical landmarks.
