P150-M Esplanade to rise along Iloilo River

A NEW tourist destination will rise along the Iloilo River to complement the Dinagyang Festival 2012, according to Sen. Franklin Drilon.

Drilon said he set aside P150 million from his priority development fund (PDAF) for the Iloilo River Esplanade project that will stretch some three kilometers from Carpenter’s Bridge in Molo, Iloilo to the “Railway” or Drilon Bridge at Brgy. Rizal in Lapuz, LaPaz. An esplanade is a long, open, level area, usually next to a river or large body of water, where people may walk, dine and do other recreational activities.

Renowned architect Paulo Alcazaren, the developer of the popular Singapore Quay, was tasked to draw the design for the Iloilo River Esplanade.

“The engineering design of the esplanade will be available in June and we expect the bidding of the project in July. If plans push through, the first phase esplanade from Carpenter’s Bridge to Diversion Road area where Barbecue Park once stood will be finished in time for the Dinagyang festival in 2012,” Drilon said.
